What is it all about?
Funny Women is celebrating International Women’s Day for the sixth year running on Sunday 8th March 2009 with a fantastic new show, Celebrity Funny Women. A host of female celebrities face the challenge of becoming a funny woman, with the help of some of Funny Women’s favourite comedians. Well-loved personalities will step out of their comfort zone and perform a short stand-up set in front of a live audience. Plus more comedy and music.
Blue Peter legend Janet Ellis is teamed with impressionist Jan Ravens. PR guru and author Lynne Franks finds her funny bone with Shazia Mirza. LBC presenter Jeni Barnett tries her hand at stand up alongside sassy American Tanyalee Davis. Funny Women Awards winner 2007 Andi Osho, magician and comedian Mandy Muden… and more to be confirmed.
Also featuring music from Vaginal Tap and Adams & Rea, and Funny Women Awards winners, Suzy Bennett (2006) and Katherine Ryan (2008).
Who is it for?
Box office proceeds raised at Celebrity Funny Women will be donated to our beneficiary charity ActionAid, which works to protect, empower and inspire women and girls to achieve their full potential.
This year’s charity gala supports the charity’s Put Your Foot Down campaign highlighting the link between violence against women and the spread of HIV and AIDS. ActionAid is asking the UK public to donate their shoes as a reminder to the UK Government to put their foot down and stop both the threat of violence and HIV and AIDS faced by women in the developing world.
To really put our stamp on the message we request that guests wear colourful and unusual shoes.
