Funny Women Comedy Challenge

Tuesday 23rd November, 7.00 p.m. Funny Women challenges comedy novices for local charity as part of the Richmond Literary Festival at the Bingham featuring

in The first ever Funny Women Challenge at the Bingham Hotel, hosted by Gabby Logan on  Tuesday 23rd November, 7.00pm.

As you know I am always up for a challenge and this is certainly a BIG one! I have agreed, along with four other business women like me, to perform three minutes of stand up comedy for the first time to a paying audience!

The event on 23rd November will raise awareness and funds for Richmond based charity, The New Victoria Medical Foundation, and takes place in the luxurious surroundings of The Bingham, boutique hotel and restaurant. Local business, Funny Women, has been facing up to the challenge of proving that women really are very funny for the last eight years. With a record number of entries this year into its annual new talent competition, the Funny Women Awards, the producers want to show that everybody can tap into their innate sense of humour and use it to communicate effectively in their business and social lives, especially women.

The Challengers

Funny Women are challenging five prominent business women

Julie Hall-is the founder of Women Unlimited, a learning and support community for women business owners, and Springmedia, a digital design agency based in South West London. For more details about about Julie Hall’s workshops visit www.women-unlimited.co.uk

Karen Darby-is a highly successful business woman and serial entrepreneur, the founder of several businesses including Call Britannia and Simply Switch. For more information about Karen Darby visit www.karendarbydirect.com.

Claire Pelenc– is used to wearing many hats and her most recent one is as the new Regional Director of the Athena Network for the Borough of Richmond. She runs this new venture alongside her fast-growing home-based business with Forever Living Products

Mel Burgess-is the business development manager at Newsquest South & West London, publishers of the Richmond & Twickenham Times.

Nora Berge-As well as her full time job at the German Embassy in London, she also had time to discover Kenya and helped in setting up her mother’s charity ‘Hope for Konya’, a non profit charity that wants to make a difference for Konya, a region in Western Kenya.

to perform three minutes of stand-up comedy for the first time to a paying audience. Each woman performing will have been mentored for her performance by the Funny Women team and a few of their favourite comedy acts.

Who’s Hosting?

Hosting the show will be television presenter and Richmond resident, Gabby Logan who is also in training to tell a few jokes and a few funny anecdotes about life with the BBC sports presenting team.

Who are we raising money for?

Proceeds will to go to The New Victoria Medical Foundation, a charity based in Richmond which is helping to change many lives though the medical support it provides. Members of the public are invited to sponsor our challengers in support of The New Victoria Medical Foundation. 100% of the funds raised will help to provide mobility equipment for disabled children living in the local area giving them independence at school and home.

“The Foundation is delighted to be the beneficiary charity of this fabulous event,” says Lorna Votier, Head of Fundraising at the charity. “The funds raised on the night and through the challengers being sponsored will provide much needed mobility equipment for disabled children living in the local area helping to give them independence at school and home.”


The Bingham is a sponsor of the Richmond upon Thames Literary Festival and this event takes place in theluxurious surroundings of The Bingham, boutique hotel  Garden Rooms event suite.
