Redundancy a spur to business start-up

Fear of being made redundant is encouraging people to set up on their own, according to a survey.

In research conducted by consultancy GetSet for Business 40 per cent of business owners state fear of having their financial security removed as the main motivation in becoming self-employed.

  1. Having spent most of my working life in permanent employment, it took being made redundant to make me brave and set out on my own. A decision I have never regretted even though it is scary and hard work. I had always dreamed of running my own business and I am developing lots of new areas in my life so I find I am interested in life again. You see ‘the sparkle’ had left me and I wanted it back!
